La segunda parada del circuito Copa las Americas fué en Acapulco,  y tuve la suerte de ganarlo, hubieron olas divertidas todo el torneo y la final fué contra mi amigo y gran surfer Yuco Flow. Aqui esta el video

Ángelo Lozano se consagró como el gran vencedor de la segunda fecha de la Copa de Las Américas que se realizó el pasado fin de semana en playa Bonfil, Acapulco. El crédito de Puerto Escondido derrotó en la final a José Manuel “Yuco” Trujillo, favorito del público que se dio cita en la mencionada playa para seguir las acciones de la segunda fecha de la Copa de Las Américas.

“Fue un muy buen evento, hubo muy buen nivel de surfing y todos traían muchas ganas de ganarlo. Era la segunda parada del circuito Copa las Américas y por lo tanto era importante tener un buen resultado para repuntar en el ranking. Me sentí bien desde que comenzó el evento, estaba enfocado e intenté no presionarme mucho, la Bonfil es una ola muy divertida y maniobrable que me gusta mucho, ya había tenido una final Open ahí hace dos años pero no pude ganarla”.

El formato fue man to man desde la segunda ronda por lo que fue altamente competitivo, surfing contra surfing era lo que se buscaba…y así fue. Se llevaron a cabo algunos heats de finales desde octavos. En la final me tocaron buenas olas y las pude aprovechar bien hasta la última reforma…iba contra el favorito y local de la playa, Yuco ‘Flow’ Trujillo un gran amigo. La final de 30 minutos juntos fue muy divertida pero sobre todo muy desgastante. Además, al ser el único surfista de Red Bull surfeando en un evento Monster, contra muchos atletas de su team, le dio un condimento extra a este nuevo triunfo”.

En la semifinal Ángelo eliminó a su primo Cristian Corzo, ganador del Surf Music Festival en Puerto Escondido y gran amigo y compañero de viajes en la gira latina. Luego en la instancia definitoria revivió el heat que había disputado con su amigo “Yuco” en la etapa mexicana del ALAS durante el año pasado.

Con este resultado el integrante del team Squalo se ubicó en el primer puesto del ranking, en su debut en la Copa de Las Américas había quedado segundo detrás del campeón Dylan Southworth.

En los próximos días, Ángelo estará regresando a Puerto Escondido para participar en el primer nacional de la Federación Mexicana de Surfing que se realizará en Río Nexpa, Michoacán.

“Este año el circuito nacional tiene prioridad, quiero asegurarme una plaza en el team que viajará al mundial de la ISA en el 2010, y así luchar por una de las medallas en juego”, explicó un tranquilo Lozano a Surfpress en comunicación telefónica.

BAD RECEPTION

La semana pasada en suelo panameño se realizó la presentación del DVD “Bad Reception”, producción que reúne a surfistas consagrados como Fred Patacchia, Dane Reynolds y Tom Curren, con surfistas latinos entre los que se destacan Ángelo Lozano, Martín Passeri, Gabriel Villarán, Diego Cadena, Cristian Corzo y Gabriel Aramburu entre otros. En el filme Mr. Lozano aparece haciendo lo que mejor sabe hacer en olas mexicanas.

Ángelo Lozano became the big winner on the second stage of the American Cup that took place last weekend at Bonfil Beach, Acapulco. The surfer from Puerto Escondido beat Jose Manuel “Yuco” Trujillo, who was the favourite, in the final.

“It was a very good event, with a great level and a lot of surfers who were eager to win. This was the second stage of the American Cup and it was a good opportunity to obtain good results for the ranking. I felt great during the whole event, I was focused on my performance and tried not to feel under a lot of pressure. Bonfil’s wave is fun and easy to ride, I like it a lot. I had been there two years ago for an Open final but I couldn’t win that time.

“The event had a man to man modality from the second round onwards, that’s why it was highly competitive, just what I wanted. There were some final heats from the round prior to the quarterfinals. I had very good waves in the final and I took advantage of that….I had to compete against the local and favourite surfer, Yuco “Flow” Trujillo, a great friend. It was a 30 minutes final lots of fun but really exhausting. Besides it was a special triumph because I was the only Red Bull surfer on a Monster event competing against a lot of athletes from its team”.

Ángelo beat his cousin Cristian Corzo on the semifinal. Corzo, who is also Ángelo’s friend and his mate during the trips for the Latin tour, had won the Surf Music Festival at Puerto Escondido. Later on, Lozano competed against his friend “Yuco” in the final, as he did last year during the Mexican stage of the ALAS.

With this result, the Squalo team member, went to the top of the ranking. He was second after the first stage of the American Cup following champion Dylan Southworth.

On the next few days, Ángelo will come back to Puerto Escondido to participate in the first national competition of the Mexican Surfing Federation which will take place at Río Nexpa, Michoacán.

“This year my priority is the national tour, I want to be sure that my team will go to 2010 World Championship. My idea is to be part of the national team and to fight for one of the medals on that competition”, explained Lozano to Surfpress on a telephone conversation.

Luego de un intenso enero, Ángelo Lozano se encuentra preparado para la segunda serie de competencias del tour ALAS. Perú, Ecuador y Chile serán los destinos que el local de Puerto Escondido estará visitando durante el mes de febrero.

Perú será sede de un nuevo Reef Classic, en las olas de Punta Rocas el integrante del team Squalo entrará en acción por segunda vez en el calendario 2008 de las competencias oficiales del tour ALAS. Su debut había sido en el Reef Classic Argentina, disputado el segundo fin de semana de enero en Mar del Plata, donde finalizó en la novena ubicación.

Una semana después la acción se trasladará hasta Ecuador, en las olas de Montañita se llevará a cabo la tercera parada del tour latino. Mientras que siete días después en Reñaca se disputará el cuarto Reef Classic.

“Estuve entrenando mucho para la seguidilla de fechas que se avecinan, las olas las conozco y eso siempre es un punto a favor. Espero dar lo mejor de mí para acomodarme en el ranking, será un año muy intenso y esto recién comienza”, manifestó desde el otro lado de la línea un tranquilo Ángelo Lozano.

BUEN COMIENZO NACIONAL

En la primera etapa del circuito Pro Am Copa de Las Américas realizada en Cancún, el crédito de Puerto Escondido se ubicó en la segunda posición detrás de Dylan Southworth, en tercer lugar se colocó Diego Cadena y el cuarto peldaño del podio fue para Heriberto Ramírez.

“Este circuito será muy importante para el surfing mexicano, la próxima fecha será a fines de marzo en Acapulco, Guerrero, y ahí estaré para seguir avanzando en esta gran iniciativa que no hará más que posicionar el surfing como uno de los deportes de cabecera en mi país”.

Angelo Lozano is now prepared for the second stage of the ALAS tour after a busy January. The surfer from Puerto Escondido will be visiting Peru, Ecuador and Chile during February.

The upcoming Reef Classic will take place in Peru, the Squalo team member will compete for the second time this year in the ALAS tour at Punta Roca’s waves. He first participated in the Reef Classic Argentina during the second weekend of January at Mar del Plata where he placed ninth.

A week after that, the third stage of the Latin tour will be carried out at Montañita, Ecuador. Whereas the fourth Reef Classic will take place at Reñaca seven days later.

“I’ve been training a lot for the next competitions, I know those waves pretty well and that’s a good thing for me. I hope to do my best and to obtain a better position on the ranking. This will be an intense year and this is just the beginning”, said a peaceful Angelo Lozano.

A FLYING START

The first stage of the Americas’ Cup Pro-Am Tour took place in Cancun. There, Angelo Lozano placed second following Dylan Southworth. Diego Cadena got the third position and Heriberto Ramírez was fourth.

“This will be an important tour for Mexican surfing. Next stage will be carried out on March at Acapulco, Guerrero and I’ll be there. This is a great idea to promote surfing as one of the most important sports of the country”.
